Predoctoral Internship/Postdoctoral Fellowship
We have ONE 2-year predoctoral internship/postdoctoral fellowship position available in our Brooklyn office.
The Center for Anxiety offers a two-year training program in clinical psychology consisting of a one-year pre-doctoral internship program followed by a one-year postdoctoral fellowship. We developed our two-year training program with the goal of providing doctoral students in clinical psychology the necessary support and experience to fully navigate the transition from graduate student to licensed clinician. As students progress through their internship and postdoctoral years, they are gradually afforded increased flexibility and autonomy to tailor their individual curriculum according to their training needs. Through this process, trainees are able to build the clinical skills and competencies necessary for independent professional practice. Our program places an emphasis on providing clinical interns and postdoctoral fellows with comprehensive and broad clinical training experiences with children, adolescents, and adults in Center for Anxiety’s general outpatient and intensive outpatient programs (e.g., experience with a variety of clinical activities, treatment modalities, diverse patient populations, a full range of psychiatric diagnoses of varying severity). In addition, opportunities for specialized training are available to trainees in the form of: (1) Elective clinical activities that trainees complete in accordance with individual training needs and interests, and (2) A specialization during each training year, providing in-depth training in Child and Family Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or Research.
Update as of April 1st, 2018: We have space for TWO interns in our Manhattan office at this time, and ONE intern in our Rockland County office. The internship involves a commitment to work for at least 10 hours/week (in two or more shifts) for a minimum of 12 months. Interns at the Center for Anxiety work in conjunction with our Patient Care Managers to manage telephone and email correspondence with patients, referral sources, and others in a timely and professional manner; conduct telephone screens with prospective patients; and provide information about clinical and other services. In addition, Clinical Interns provide office assistance to maintain the upkeep and management of the office by helping with tasks such as completing forms, data entry, assisting with the promotion and management of hosted events, marketing, and additional office tasks as needed. Opportunities to conduct structured clinical interviews, assist with supervision of children during assessments, and observe group treatment programs, are also available, subject to availability and interest. Candidates must be Juniors, Seniors or recent college graduates, who are highly professional, personable, responsible, well-organized and have excellent communication skills.
